Reader Brian Engles has a Babe Ruth pin just like this one (Hyee Auctions, eBay) that sold for $292 in October. Where in the “PM” series pins on p.307 of the 2008 Standard Catalog does it belong? Is it a 1950s-’60s and is missing the ribbon on the back?

He dug up the eBay auctioneer who sold one like his, and got to the bottom of it: The seller (Henry Yee) this particular pin identifies it as a 1940’s pin with the help of Baseball Pinback Buttons by Paul Muchinsky. The one pictured sold for $292 on eBay Oct. 7.

The pin is listed in the 2004 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards (page 347) and is a 1948 Babe Ruth Memorial Pin. If you shoot me an email, I can send you a scan of the write up.
